Emmanuel and Jesus
Emmanuel and Jesus:
Between Prophet Isaiah and Matthew the Evangelist:
“Therefore, the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” (Isaiah7:14)
This was revealed by Isaiah the prophet to confirm that God will keep His promise and that the Savior will come.
Matthew the Evangelist mentions the same verse: "Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel", adding (which means, God with us). (Matthew 1: 23).
The main point in this verse is Immanuel. What is the link between the name Jesus and Immanuel?
Jesus is a Hebrew name from YHWH –being- and salvation. Yashua or Jesus is the Being/God Who saves.
This is exactly what the angel said to Joseph about the Virgin Mary: that she will “bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for He will save his people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21).
On the other hand, Immanuel is a Hebrew name from “im+ manu” meaning: with us and el stands for “God”.
This is the divine economy that God is with us, among us, within us. He was incarnate to save us. He is Yahweh Who appeared to Moses and revealed Himself to him and was incarnate on earth.
Glory to Thee, O God.
