Under the patronage of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch and All the East, and as part of the "Cultural Encounters for the Development of the New Syria" series, a symposium titled "The Role of Media in Democratic Transition" was held at the Holy Cross Church Hall in Damascus. The event featured journalist Omar Sheikh Ibrahim, President of the Trukish Journalists’ Association, in a discussion interviewed by Dr. Maher Amari and Ms. Alice Qassis.

The symposium addressed the importance of media in building democracy and reinforcing freedom of expression, as well as its role in combating misinformation and promoting political and social awareness.

The discussion also emphasized the need for an independent and responsible media sector that supports democratic transformation, holds authorities accountable, and fosters a culture of dialogue and openness.

Additionally, the symposium explored the role of social media as influential platforms in shaping public opinion, while highlighting the importance of media literacy to avoid falling prey to misinformation and media manipulation.

The event featured discussions and contributions from attendees, enriching the dialogue with constructive ideas on the role of media in Syria’s future.
